Through The Looking Glass

Alice in Wonderland is one of my favourite films ever, probably because it quite simply is the wierdest film I have ever seen. The fact that the Disney version is aimed at such a young audience while secretly the whole film is blatantly about drugs is intruiging. Jefferson Airplane (one of the best Psychedelic bands of the 60's) released their most popular single in 1967 - White Rabbit - based upon the film/story. As the lyrics in the song say 'One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small, and the ones that mother gives you don't do anything atall, go as Alice when she's 10 feet tall', it adds even more to the fact that the film/story is all about drugs. Poor Alice, getting lost in her own little Wonderland and eating mushrooms which make you happy one minute and sad the next, socialising with a Hookah smoking catterpillar, following strange creatures which are there one minute and gone the next, eating little tablets she finds in the White Rabbit's house which make her grow dramatically in size all because she was just curious... I love it, I love sitting there and analysing the whole film in my head (this bit relates to this, and this bit relates to that). When I heard that Tim Burton is releasing a live version of Alice in Wonderland in 2010 with Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway I was more than excited. The plot has been slightly changed in a very Tim Burton style, as Alice is now 19 years old. It looks and sounds absolutely fantastic and is released in March, I can't wait! Alice in Wonderland, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp all in one, how can it not be one of the best films ever.
