Vogue Goes Native, Part I
Two issues of Vogue (for March 2010) feature Native motifs. The first is for Vogue Germany, and the second is Vogue US.
Hey, it’s no secret that Germans love Indians.
Daniel P Dykes writes: “Vogue Germany Goes Native. Tribal fashion goes Native American in the March 2010 issue of Vogue Germany. Feathers and side braids (a 2010 hair trend) mix together with a vintage photographic style for dramatic effect. The shoot features model Anne Vyalitsyna.”
I always get a little bit concerned about 'playing Indian,' especially when it's non-Native photographers shooting non-Native models styled by non-Native stylists and wearing non-Native designer clothing, AND she's rocking a fake tan. I think German readers would have enjoyed some ‘authentic Indians’ a bit more. But that’s just me thinking.
